Thai Burger Company in San Diego — Don’t Hold These Buns Too Tight

Food vendors of every stripe bring their A game to the Reader Burgers & Beer festival, and many bring inspired interpretations of what makes a hamburger. One such restaurant is Thai Burger Company, and its efforts earned it a most innovative burger distinction in 2017.

Inspired by Traditional Thai Dishes

As its name suggests, Thai Burger Company’s burger patties are inspired by traditional Thai dishes, such as a chicken satay burger that pairs a coconut curried ground chicken with Thai peanut sauce. But what truly makes these burgers stand out are their buns: they’re molded out of sticky rice.

Thai Bbq Style, Panang Curry, and Kaprao Burger Patties

The tiny Clairemont Mesa shop is mostly ordering counter and patio seating, great for a boba and a simple burger stacked between thick rice “buns.” Pork burger options range from sweet Thai BBQ style, to panang curry, to a kaprao patty with plenty of spicy kick. Adding fried egg topping is optional, but encouraged. It certainly helped Thai Burger Company capture plenty of votes in the Burgers & Beer competition!
